San Antonio, Texas is a city rich in historical significance. From historic battles to a unique river that flows through the city, San Antonio is full of interesting attractions. San Antonio recently achieved the status of becoming the 8th largest city in the United States and although it is a large city, San Antonio still retains the tradition and history it has accomplished over the years. The Battle of the Alamo was a defining moment in Texas history, and has been depicted in numerous films throughout the years. The battle took place at the Alamo Mission and lasted for two weeks. Although the battle ended in tragedy, the valiant efforts of the Texan defenders within stalled the Mexican forces and allowed for Sam Houston to round up more soldiers and supplies for his victory at San Jacinto. The Texas army then went on to win the war. More than 2.5 million people a year visit the Alamo complex which is located on over 4 acres. Most visitors come to see the mission which is where the remaining Texas forces holed up in an effort to fight off the opposing Mexican army. The Alamo is open every day of the year except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and admission is free.

One of the more popular San Antonio attractions is the Paseo del Rio, or River Walk. This river runs through the downtown area and flows alongside shops, bars, and restaurants. During the Christmas season, the River Walk is decorated with an impressive array of lights. The River Walk is San Antonio's central entertainment district and is home to many popular clubs such as Dick's Last Resort, On The Half Shell Oyster Bar, and a Hard Rock Café.

Those looking for more than a leisurely stroll through the downtown San Antonio area should definitely check out San Antonio's theme parks. Those seeking adventure and fun don't need to look far from San Antonio. The San Antonio area is home to SeaWorld and a Six Flags theme parks. SeaWorld San Antonio is located in the Westover Hills area, and is the largest marine park in the world. In addition to housing marine life, it also has four thrill rides and a water park. Six Flags Fiesta Texas is located in northern San Antonio featuring six roller coasters with names like Boomerang, Poltergeist, Superman: Krypton Coaster as well as a water park.
