San Juan, Puerto Rico

San Juan is the largest city in Puerto Rico and is extremely popular due to the lavish beaches, nightlife, and fine cuisine that the city provides. In addition to its amenities, San Juan has a rich history as evidenced by the many historical sites located within and surrounding the city.

San Juan, Puerto Rico has miles of smooth, clean beaches, such as the Playa Ocean Park located in the metropolitan area of San Juan. During the weekend, Playa Ocean Park has many activities that visitors can take part in. The Playa Cerro Gordo is another popular beach located just a short drive from San Juan in the city of Vega Alta.

If you'd like to see some of the history associated with San Juan, you can visit one of the many historical sites located throughout the city. El Morro is one of the largest Spaniard built forts in the Caribbean and it sits atop a high promontory overlooking the entrance to San Juan Bay. El Morro and its sister fort the San Cristobal, are the result of over 200 years of Spanish engineering.

If old world architecture is your thing, consider visiting the San Jose Church located in Old San Juan, which many view as a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. This church was dedicated to well known Saint Thomas Aquinas. Other well known architectural wonders nearby San Juan include the Maunabo Lighthouse and the Porta Coeli.

After a day at the beach and viewing San Juan's past, it's time for something to eat and there is no place better than San Sebastian Street in which to find the food you crave. The San Sebastian section of San Juan features nightclubs, quaint taverns, and many eateries offering international cuisine. There is also a Hard Rock Café for those that are less adventurous. San Sebastian Street also features live music and plenty of dancing.
