Hometown service on the Palouse!

Welcome to the gorgeous, picturesque Palouse! As one of the top destination locations in the world for landscape photography, shutterbugs from all over come to capture the raw, natural beauty that only the Palouse region can offer, in all four seasons.

Located right in the middle of it all is the comfy and friendly Wheatland Inn. We pride ourselves on providing each guest a very clean property, serviced by a friendly, caring staff that will treat you like family.

We're just minutes away from Pullman, the home of Washington State University. Make sure you visit Steptoe Butte, and take in the 360-degree views of up to 200 miles! Drive over and see the breath-taking Palouse Falls, and the "mini Grand Canyon" carved out by the Palouse River.

This is truly wheat land, with the "amber waves of grain" for as far as the eye can see!

Come stay with us at the Best Western Wheatland Inn and relax in our heated, indoor pool and hot tub. Bring your dog. We are a dog-loving property.

Let us be your "home away from home" while you travel!

  • 15 mile(s) from Steptoe Butte, High above the Palouse Hills on the eastern edge of Washington, Steptoe Butte offers unparalleled views of a truly unique landscape. The warm, quartzite bluff stands out against soft hills of green and mauve, an occasional barn dotting the landscape. Colors seem to shift and change in the light. The butte contains some of the oldest rock in the Pacific Northwest, and it marks the border of the original North American Continent. Steptoe has, over time, been a wagon road, a hotel site, and an observatory location. In addition to inspiring vistas, the 3,612-foot summit displays several interpretive panels that pay homage to its distinctive geology. This day-use park is a must-visit on a leisurely drive through eastern Washington. 360-degree views of up to 200 miles! *Discover Pass is required for vehicle access.*
  • 0.20 mile(s) from Perkins House, Created in 1886 by the founders of Colfax, James & Sarah Jane (Jennie) Perkins, this beautiful, two-story, Victorian manion was the center of Colfax society for decades. It has since been restored and preserved by the Whitman County Historical Society. Come see it for yourself, and take a step back in time, and see what Victorian-era Colfax was like. Also on the grounds, is the original cabin built by the Perkins family. It remains the oldest standing structure in Whitman County! The Perkins House is open for tours on Saturday, from 10:00 - 2:00. The Colfax Chamber of Commerce is also located in the Perkins House. So, the building is sometimes open during the week. Call the Chamber at 509-553-9729 for hours.
  • 0.30 mile(s) from Codger Pole, Make sure you see the world's largest chain-sawn sculpture of human likenesses and the world's largest football monument! Created to honor "The Legend" of a grudge match 50 years in the making.
  • 1 mile(s) from Schmuck Park, Schmuck Park is a destination park featuring a large covered picnic area with stone fireplace, a smaller covered area, restrooms, drinking fountains, a playground, sand volleyball court, horseshoe pit, tennis court, and acres of green grass and mature shade trees. The municipal swimming pool and skatepark are located at the south end of the park. The school's track and football fields are also a part of Schmuck Park, and are adjacent to the south end. The park can accommodate large groups, and is often the site of class and family reunions, school and youth events, and Chamber events.
  • 1 mile(s) from Colfax Trail, The Colfax Trail follows an abandoned rail corridor, which snakes along the river northwest of the town of Colfax. Along the way you'll likely see wildlife in the surrounding Palouse hills and the river bottom.
  • 68 mile(s) from Palouse Falls, Palouse Falls is an artist's dream, and many a painter or shutterbug has set up an easel or camera and tripod to capture the falls in the changing light. Others make the trip in all four seasons, when the water is high, low or frozen, because they understand that once is not enough when it comes to seeing Washington's own state waterfall. The Palouse River runs through a narrow cataract and drops 200 feet to a churning bowl. From there, the current moves swiftly, through a winding gorge of columnar basalt, to its southern end at the mighty Snake River. Beautiful in all four seasons, the Palouse Falls is a diamond-in-the-rough. Come see how the Palouse River has carved out a "mini-Grand Canyon" through the landscape! *Discover Pass is required for vehicle access.*
