Cumberland Island National Seashore
Take a boat trip to Cumberland Island National Seashore and experience the best of coastal Georgia. The largest of Georgia's Gulf Islands, Cumberland Islands has more than 36,000 acres filled with dunes, marshes, lakes, and beaches. Learn about early American history and the first inhabitants of the seashore, the Timucua Indians, at the Cumberland Island National Seashore Museum. Explore the Plum Orchard Mansion and Dungeness Ruins, home to much later, historically significant inhabitants like James Oglethorpe.
There are also 50 miles of hiking trails on the island, passing through everything from historic districts, forests, and beaches. There's plentiful wildlife, including 300 species of birds, sea turtles, and manatees. Fishers can drop a line and expect to hook bass and blue gill.
