Our Commitment to Animal Welfare: Transition to Cage-Free Eggs
At BWH® Hotels, we believe that responsible hospitality extends beyond exceptional guest experiences - it includes a deep commitment to ethical sourcing and animal welfare. As part of our ongoing sustainability and corporate responsibility efforts, we formalized our commitment to sourcing 100 percent of our eggs - including shell, liquid, and egg products- from cage-free sources across our entire global portfolio where available by the end of 2025. This pledge applies to all Best Western® Hotels & Resorts, WorldHotels™, and SureStay® properties, whether owned, managed, or franchised.
We recognize the importance of supporting humane practices and are working closely with our suppliers and other relevant international partners to ensure a smooth and transparent transition. This initiative reflects our dedication to improving the welfare of animals in our supply chain and aligns with the diverse needs and expectations of our guests, employees, and stakeholders globally.
Although each of our hotels is independently owned and operated, we encourage all properties to adopt sustainable, eco-friendly practices that reflect our organization’s values. In North America, nearly 50% of our properties are using cage-free eggs, and in Europe, more than 50% of properties in several countries are using cage-free eggs, with the Scandinavian region leading the way at 100% of their properties. In Asia and LATAM, over 70% of properties are using cage free-eggs, and we will purchase our first order of credits as a pilot in Q1 2026 where applicable. Globally, we have achieved nearly 70% cage-free sourcing.
We remain committed to transparency and accountability and will continue working with local suppliers and partners like the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance to support various options to expand the supply of cage-free options and evaluate other related strategies.
We acknowledge that implementation timelines may vary by region due to supply chain maturity and market readiness, but our commitment remains steadfast and global in scope. We remain open to dialogue with all stakeholders as we work toward a more humane and sustainable future.
Thank you for supporting our journey toward a better future—for people, animals, and the planet.
