Discover the local farms and educational centers in some of the rural areas of Vancouver, Victoria, and other regions around British Columbia. Mattick’s Farm is a unique destination where you can spend the day shopping the 15 boutiques, play a round of mini golf, or relax at the day spa.

Those interested in purchasing gifts can head to the Okanagan Lavender Herb Farm where you’ll find 60 kinds of lavender growing in the fields. The family-owned farm has a country store filled with lavender products and this is the place to try lavender ice cream.

Take a tour of the University of British Columbia campus when exploring the city of Vancouver and you’ll discover the 24-acre UBC Farm. This is a ‘living laboratory’ where students raise different types of orchards, perennials, and crops. You can also take cooking classes or cheese making workshops here.

If you want to learn about the history of the dairy industry in Canada, spend the day at the Bakerview EcoDairy Learning Centre south of downtown. Visit the dairy barn to see the Vitala Cows and watch a film in the Avalon Dairy Theatre.

Okanagan Lavender Herb Farm

This beautiful farm acts as a feast for your senses - delight in the sights of picture-perfect Okanagan Lake and smell the lavender at Okanagan Lavender Herb Farm. Visitors to this Kelowna farm are greeted by rows and rows of gorgeous and vibrant purple fields harboring over 60 kinds of lavender, where this stunning display is matched with its relaxing, distinctive fragrance.

Family owned, the eastern British Columbia farm allows for visitors to take home a number of souvenirs - there's a pick-your-own stems bed and a country store featuring handmade lavender products, including wreaths and beauty products. And to top the day off, enjoy a glass of lavender lemonade or a bowl of lavender ice cream.

UBC Farm

While in the vibrant city of Vancouver, enjoy a tour of the 993-acre University of British Columbia campus, located six miles west of downtown. This public research university continues its research education in a variety of research centres, including the UBC Farm.

This twenty-four acre farm on the university's south campus, is maintained by the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems. Enjoy a tour of this "living laboratory" to see the crop fields, orchards and perennials.

University students study innovative sustainability, as active stewards of the farm land, with a focus on community service. Local Vancouver residents have the opportunity to participate in the farm's Growing Season Workshop Series, that include cooking classes, plant breeding and cheese making workshops.

Visit the farm between June and October, on Saturdays, for the Farm Markets where a variety of local produce, flowers and baked goods are on sale.

Bakerview EcoDairy Learning Centre

Ready for a fun day of learning about farms in Abbotsford? Make your way to the Bakerview EcoDairy Learning Centre, located in the Fraser Valley, south of downtown. This wonderful demonstration farm, is the first of its kind in the country. Enjoy strolling the centre grounds, to learn about their sustainable dairy farm practices.

Make your way to the Learning Centre to see the dairy barn, the home of the Vitala Cows. Be sure to view the robotic milker and keep a lookout for the goats on top of the roof.

View the film in the Avalon Dairy Theatre, before making your way to the animal exhibit to meet Ingrid and Krissy, the farm goats, and Angel Cake, the miniature pony. Enjoy strolling through the park to see the Friesian Horses and cows. The Nature's Pickin's store, a Nutrifoods Market, offers a variety of local, natural produce, grains, dairy and meat.
