Also known as the Ramparts of Québec City, these two historic strongholds surround much of Old Québec, and became a National Historic Site of Canada in 1948.

Visitor Information
Plan your next visit to Québec and check out some important – and impressive – history. The Fortifications of Québec National Historic Site is comprised of two distinct structures: the Frontenac Kiosk on Dufferin Terrace, and the Artillery Park.

You're welcome to visit the Fortifications of Québec at any time of year, but there are a wide range of hours in which you can partake in tours. At the Artillery Park, you'll need to make reservations if you're visiting between early April and mid May.  From mid May to mid October the park is open for visits every day, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It should also be noted, there is a span of time between late June and early September when the park stays open an hour later to 6 p.m.

You'll find the Fortifications of Québec in downtown Québec City – only minutes inland from Le Fleuve Saint-Laurent. You can easily access the Fortifications with a drive along the Autoroute Dufferin-Montmorency.

Attractions & Activities
Visits to Quebec can often be filled with tours of historic sites and museums. Your next trip should be no different. Plan for a full day of exploration at the Fortifications of Quebec, where you'll be treated to firing demonstrations of historic muskets – it's like you've traveled back in time!

Of the many things you'll have a chance to see and do at the Fortifications, one of the premier family events is the Legend of the Talking Walls: An Incredible Adventure for the Whole Family.

Available for families from Victoria Day through Thanksgiving, this activity is especially geared for kids seven to 12 years of age, and usually takes around 45 minutes to complete. You'll find challenges, games, and puzzles as you hunt down the Enchanted Bracelet or the Magic Sword. This is a great way to have some fun with the family while you tour and see the sites around the Citadel of Quebec – it's what links the Fortifications of Quebec.

Another interactive activity is the The Fort's Mission: Save the Colony. Designed for guests between 12 and 60 years of age, this interactive adventures guides you into the heart of Old Quebec. You'll learn about the colony's defense systems, and gain insight into what life was like during the era. This is also available to try from Victoria Day through Thanksgiving.
