Niagara & SW Ontario Agriculture
A quick drive through the Niagara Escarpment and southwestern Ontario brings plenty of family farms along the way.
Sweet on syrup? A family-owned farmstead, White Meadows Farms features the Pancake House in late winter, historic wagon rides better known as the Sugar Bush Adventure in March, and visits to the Maple Sweet Shop throughout the year. White Meadows Farms is set in Pelham – just northwest of Welland.
Farmers’ Markets are so hot right now, so be sure to fit a few on your itinerary in southern Ontario. Catch the St. Catharines Farmers' Market in St. Catharines, and stick around for more goods from Werner Fruit Farm and Whitty Farms.
Niagara Falls features Lococo's Fresh Market and the Niagara Falls Farmers' Market, while nearby marketplaces include Harvest Barn Country Market in Virgil and Peach Country Farm Market in Vineland. And the reigning champ, Niagara-on-the-Lake features Tina's Niagara Selections, Walker's Country Farm, Kurtz Orchards Country Market, and Bluemin' Acres.
The Niagara peninsula is also known for wineries like Peller Estates, Inniskillin, Jackson-Triggs, Tawse, and Strewn, but also an incredible amount of pick-your-own farms. Round up some fruit at the Blueberry Knoll Berry Farm in Lowbanks, pick some pumpkins at Bry-Anne Farms in Fenwick, or bring home some flowers from Busy Bee Gardens Lavender in Niagara-On-The-Lake.
Head to Beamsville for cherries, grapes, peaches, pears, and plums at Cherry Avenue Farms, and grab some fresh blueberries at Gwennol Farm in Ridgeville.
Let’s not forget southwestern Ontario. The London area features Apple Land Station in Thorndale, Arva Flour Mill in Arva, and Clovermead Adventure Farm in Aylmer – an interactive honeybee farm. Other agri-spots include Park's Blueberry Farm southeast of Sarnia, Heeman's strawberry farm right in London, and Gunn's Hill Artisan Cheese in Woodstock outside of London.
