Saskatchewan Wildlife and Zoos
Known for its natural beauty, travelers are booking adventures to Saskatchewan to experience the wildlife. Depending on where you wander, you may see a variety of birds, deer, burrowing owls and beaver in the wild. There are also popular sanctuaries and zoos that allow you access to these gorgeous creatures. Among the most popular attractions are the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo and the Last Mountain Lake National Wildlife Area.
Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo
The Farm Park began as a nursery that would eventually grow and ship more than 147 million trees. As it transitioned to a park, it rescued animals from the failing Golden Gate Animal Farm. Today, it hosts more than 300 animals covering 80 different species, including bears, yaks, monkeys, birds, fish, python, red panda and cougar and more. The zoo has recently added a Komodo Dragon exhibit, and kids love the Kinsmen Express Train that provides a guided tour through the zoo.
Last Mountain Lake National Wildlife Area
This wildlife area is located near Simpson acts as a bird sanctuary -- reportedly the oldest one in North America. There is no better place in Saskatchewan to see migration stops and protected endangered species.
