Enjoy Adrenaline-Pumping Rides and Thrills in Illinois

It’s easy to get your adrenaline fix when you’re traveling around Illinois so be sure to bring the kids or let your inner child run free. You’ll find several theme parks, water parks, and amusement rides near major cities so you can plan an entire trip around a day at the parks.

Six Flags Great America is one of the most-visited parks in Illinois, a family friendly destination that’s home to several thrill rides and attractions. You can also head here to meet your favorite Looney Tunes characters or indulge in some great food. Popular thrill rides at Six Flags include the Raging Bull, Batman the Ride, Iron Wolf, and the Dare Devil Dive. If you’re visiting during the summer, don’t miss the chance to make a splash at Hurricane Harbor water park or enjoy the water park experience during the winter at Key Lime Cove water park.

The summer months bring thousands of visitors to all parts of Illinois because there are some great water parks and other outdoor attractions to enjoy across the state. When you’re in East Peoria, head to the Lakeview Family Aquatic Center for a night swim or to take swimming lessons. Magic Waters Water Park opens at the end of May and is a popular destination for families and groups looking for a break from the hot summer sun. Other popular water parks include Raging Waves Water Park in Yorkville, Splash Kingdom at Knight’s Action Park, Rainbow Falls Water Park, and CoCo Key Water Resort in Woodstock.

Coco Key Water Resort is the largest waterpark in the state, encompassing more than 60,000 square feet. It’s home to the Coconut Grove Adventure River tubing adventure and is also a popular place for younger kids who want to play on Parrot’s Perch Interactive Play Island. The resort has its own spa, including an outdoor spa where you can enjoy your favorite spa treatment. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy a movie at the Dip in Theatre and head to the Key West Video Game Arcade for some old-fashioned fun.

Another one of the largest water parks in Illinois is Raging Waves Water Park. It’s located west of downtown Chicago and is a popular summertime destination with rides including PJ’s Plummet, Kangaroo Falls and the Tasmanian Twisters. The waterpark usually opens the last weekend in May and is open through the end of August.

You can enjoy a refreshing escape at Rainbow Falls Water Park, also west of downtown Chicago. Even younger kids can enjoy attractions like the Lilly Pad Leap and you can explore other exciting attractions around Lions Park.

When you’re driving through northern Illinois on a summer road trip, don’t miss the chance to enjoy some water park fun at Magic Waters. The park opens in late May with an early season schedule and you can enjoy rides including the Typhoon Terror, Double Dare Drop, and the Splash Blaster.

No summertime adventure in Illinois is complete without a trip to Splash Kingdom. This water park is a part of Knight’s Action Park and is easily accessible from I-72. You can enjoy a full day of waterpark adventures at Splash Kingdom, including a trip down the Splash Kingdom Lazy River, swimming in the Great Wave Pool, and Bumper Boats rides. It’s nonstop fun and excitement for the entire family and you’ll need at least a full day or more to make the most of it.

Whether you’re heading to Illinois during the middle of summer or in the fall, you can enjoy access to several exciting theme parks, water parks, and attractions.
