After a visit to Indianapolis, Indiana you’ll understand why Condé Nast Traveler named it one of the hottest new destinations for a vacation. Indianapolis is the Hoosier State’s capital and its largest city. Known as Circle City, Indy is best known for the annual Indianapolis 500. Indy is second only to Washington, D.C. for monuments and memorials. Soldiers and Sailors Monument features a Civil War Museum. View sculptures of President Benjamin Harrison, Abraham Lincoln, and Ulysses S. Grant at University Park. The American Legion Mall spans two city blocks and features Sunken Garden/Cenotaph Square to honor Hoosiers who died in war. Other monuments include Veteran’s Memorial Plaza, Vietnam, and Korean War Memorials, a World War II Memorial and a 9/11 Memorial. The Indiana War Memorial Museum presents exhibits spanning the Revolutionary War to present day conflicts.
White River State Park is a must-see destination for all visitors. Visit the Indianapolis Zoo and view over 250 species in simulated natural habitats. Adjacent White River Gardens offers beautifully landscaped gardens for a leisurely morning or evening stroll. The park is also home to the Indiana State Museum, the NCAA Hall of Champions, and the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art. Eagle Creek Park features a 1,400-acre lake, picnic areas, and a beach. Enjoy hiking and bird watching, or rent a kayak or canoe.
Both children and adults love the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. See interactive exhibits on dinosaurs, agro-science, geology, and space. The Sports Legends Experience is a new family attraction featuring zones where you can race pedal cars, play a simulated golf course, or experience what it’s like to be on an NBA basketball court or NFL football field.
