In northern Indiana make your way to Elkhart and check out Simonton Lake. A short drive from Goshen, Simonton Lake is known for an abundance of smallmouth bass and walleye, a sterling example of the bounties you’ll reel in on your Simonton Lake expedition.
West of Elkhart is Portage. In Portage, you’ll get your fishing fix at the Portage Lakefront Park & Riverwalk. Open daily, the Portage Lakefront Park & Riverwalk is a quick drive from Hammond, and yields healthy bounties of smallmouth and large mouth bass.
Experience the Oakdale Dam, part of Lake Freeman, near Monticello and Lafayette. You’ll enjoy pulling in fresh bluegill, crappie, and largemouth bass when fishing Oakdale Dam. Another of the fine fishing and boating lakes near Lafayette is Mascouten Park. Smaller in size at only 15 acres, Mascouten Park is nonetheless still a great fishing destination set along the Wabash River. Pack up the boat, keep the tackle boxes stocked and head out for a fine trip to Mascouten Park.
Make your way into Muncie and check out the Prairie Creek Reservoir, a 1,275-acre body of water perfect for an afternoon of boating and fishing with the kids. North of Muncie is Fort Wayne, where you’ll enjoy a charming day of fishing – from the shore or on your boat – at Guldlin Park.
Closer to the Indianapolis metro area, be sure to explore Eagle Creek Reservoir. A short drive from downtown Indianapolis, Eagle Creek Reservoir is 1,300 acres of water yielding fine hauls of walleye and bass, and makes for a great way to tool around in your boat. Make the scenic drive from nearby Plainfield or Anderson.
In southern Indiana, be sure to visit French Lick – a gateway city to the Hoosier National Forest. Reel in Bluegill, sunfish, bass in fishing ponds along Bluegill Loop, Holland Loop, and White Oak Loop in the Hardin Ridge Recreation Area. Experienced anglers can hook channel cat, bass, pan fish, and carp from Mano Point on the Ohio River.
