Winter Activities in Indiana

Experience an Indiana winter full of skiing, ice skating, and snowshoeing – bundle up and enjoy all the Hoosier State winter festivities. From cities like Chesterton and Portage, to Indianapolis, Martinsville, and Richmond – there’s a wealth of winter fun waiting to entertain.

This winter, break out the skis and head to the Paoli Peaks in southern Indiana. With an average of nearly two feet of snowfall a year, the Paoli Peaks offer a wealth of skiing fun – for experts to beginners. Featuring eight lifts, the Paoli Peaks is great for snowboarders, snow tubers, and traditional skiers – it’s an easy drive from Clarksville, Edinburgh, and Dale.

In the northern reaches of the state, you’ll find cities like Howe and Kendallville – charming cities yielding swift access to the Pokagon State Park where you and the kids will enjoy the Toboggan Run. An exciting sledding area of the Pokagon State Park, the Toboggan Run is perfect for nearly every member of the family.

The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is another of the terrific northern Indiana winter destinations. Head in from nearby Chesterton or Merriville and explore all the snowshoeing options the National Lakeshore has to offer. Enjoy the quick and scenic drive from Portage.

Before you depart the northern region of Indiana, plan for a day at the Ice Box Skating Rink. Great for kids of all ages, the Ice Box Skating rink is open year round, and is short drive from La Porte, Goshen, or Elkhart.

Set within the Indianapolis area, the Perry Park Ice Rink is another fine destination for your winter travels. Take the kids and travel in from nearby cities like Anderson, or Richmond and check out some great family ice-skating – it’s a perfect destination when you’re staying in Indianapolis.
