Lucas Oil Raceway
Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis is considered one of the top drag racing venues in the world. Located in Brownsburg, just minutes from Indy, the track has hosted prestigious events for the NHRA and NASCAR during its history. In the car racing movie, Winning, Paul Newman’s character competed in a USAC stock car race on the course. The track hosts the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals and other racing events throughout the year.
Illiana Motor Speedway
You'll find Illiana Motor Speedway in Crown Point, a pleasant and quaint city in northern Indiana. Opened in 1947, Illiana Motor Speedway is a half-mile, oval and asphalt race track. It was originally a dirt track but was paved in 1964.
Some of the major race events held at Illiana Motor Speedway include the Elmer Musgrave Memorial 100, Tony Bettenhausen Memorial 100, and a number of ASA Late Model Series races. Throughout the year at Illiana Motor Speedway, Saturday nights mean one thing: Saturday Night Racing. Not counting possible weather issues, the pits open at three, stands at four, and qualifying beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the first races at seven. Illiana Motor Speedway seats 7,000 race fans.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Known as "The Brickyard," the Indianapolis Motor Speedway opened in 1909 as the original "speedway." It was included on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and is also a National Historic Landmark. With almost 400,000 seats, it is the world's largest sporting facility.
The speedway grounds encompass over 559 acres including a motorcycle course. The annualm Memorial Day weekend Indy 500 is famous both throughout Indianapolis and the world.
While at the speedway, be sure to visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum. The museum showcases a selection of 75 Indy-500 winning cars, race cars and passenger cars in rotation throughout the year, due to the museum's space limitations.
