The Attractions of Akron
Found in northeast Ohio, just south of Cleveland, Akron sits as the fifth largest city in the state. This city is home to a number of oddball attractions such as the old Goodyear Airdock and Dr. Bob's House. When in town, check out the Mechanical Barbieand the Band of Many Kens found at Luigi’s Restaurant along Main Street. Open since 1949, Luigi’s has been serving up hot Italian dishes with flair. Open daily, you can check out this traditional Italian menu, and see what Barbie and her Kens can do.
356th Fighter Group Restaurant
Akron is home to another special eatery, the 356th Fighter Group Restaurant. This is a World War II themed restaurant – a standing commemoration to the heroes of war – is found on the southern runways of the Akron/Canton Airport. Whether a history buff or an aviation aficionado, you will agree this to be a great stopping point during your trip through Ohio during your getaway.
Memorabilia of the 356th Fighter Group – a collection of squadrons that flew through the European Theater – decorate the walls as you and your family admire your surroundings, and check out the lunch menu. Try any one of the Commander Combinations, or start the family off with a Bomber Combo Platter.
Akron Police Museum
This vacation, take the family to the Akron Police Museum for memorabilia dating back to the 1800s. Check out anything from historic badges and uniforms to an authentic Harley-Davidson police motorcycle from 1965.
Set in the Harold K. Stubbs Justice Center in downtown Akron, you can see counterfeit money, polygraphs and even drug and periodical clippings of solved crimes. Moreover, the museum offers tours as well as hands-on exhibits like “Solve the Crime.”
