Explore Wisconsin’s Unique Hiking and Biking Trails
The Badger state features over 2,500 miles of walking, running, and hiking trails. While out exploring, make sure you take along your camera to capture the breathtaking scenery along the way. While traveling to the northern region of Wisconsin, take a shot hike along the Little Manitou Falls Trails to visit the stunning waterfalls. Along the way, take a break in one of the park's picnic areas and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
Another amazing trail to explore is the Great River State Trail found along the upper Mississippi River Valley. This 24-mile recreation trail was built on an old Chicago-Northwestern railroad line and is made of crushed limestone, offering amazing views along the way. Adventurers along the trail will pass through two National Wildlife Refuges and enjoy easy access to the Great River Trail Prairie and Midway Railroad Prairie.
One of most popular destinations for mountain biking fans is the Perry Creek Trail. Located south of downtown Black River Falls, this trail will take you through gorgeous groves of aspen, pine, oak, and maple trees. There is also lots of room for hiking that will land you at the Castle Mound. Wisconsin also features the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, the North Country National Scenic Trail, and the beautiful Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway.
Great River State Trail
Found along the upper Mississippi River valley near La Crosse, the Great River State Trail is a 24-mile recreation trail in southern Wisconsin. The trail was built on an old Chicago-Northwestern railroad line and is made of crushed limestone, featuring dazzling views along the way. Visitors traveling along the trail will pass through two National Wildlife Refuges, and have access to the Great River Trail Prairie and Midway Railroad Prairie. The trail is part of the 3,000-mile Mississippi River Trail system that begins in Lake Itasca, Minnesota and continues into Louisiana.
Perry Creek Recreation Area
One of the very best and most popular destinations for mountain biking fans in Wisconsin is Perry Creek Trail. Found south of downtown Black River Falls, Perry Creek Trail is just one of the many different and unique aspects and sites found within the larger Black River State Forest. The Perry Creek Trail will land you at the Castle Mound, another top site in this forest. If you're planning to explore this area on your mountain bike, you'll pass through gorgeous swaths of aspen trees, pine trees, oak trees, and maple trees. There is also lots of room for hiking within Perry Creek Recreation Area.
