Tour Little River Canyon National Preserve in Alabama
Embark on an adventure at Little River Canyon National Preserve in Alabama, just 40 miles northeast of Gadsden. Located at the border of DeKalb and Cherokee Counties in the northeast part of the state, the preserve spans 15,288 acres. Visitors enjoy easy access to adjacent DeSoto State Park and incredible views of the Little River and Lookout Mountain. There are so many fun things to do, it’s easy to plan an entire day of outdoor recreation. Take the 11-mile scenic drive along Highway 176 and stop at the Mushroom Rock, Wolf Creek, High Falls, and Eberhart Point overlooks for stunning photo opportunities.
The preserve offers a variety of hiking trails accessible from sunrise to sunset. Bring your lunch and enjoy a family picnic. View towering sandstone cliffs, or spend the day bird watching, fishing, or kayaking the Little River. Popular hiking trails include the Canyon Mouth Picnic Area, Beaver Pond Trail, and Eberhart Trail. Horseback riding is a popular activity in the backcountry. Rock climbing is permitted on any of the cliffs, but you must bring your own gear.
