Tour Alabama’s Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area
Alabama’s Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area (MSNHA) is the only heritage area in the state and one of 49 in the nation. Established by the National Park Service, the area includes six counties adjacent to the Tennessee River: Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, and Morgan. MSNHA includes a diverse array of attractions. Go hiking and bird watching at Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve, or hike the Amen Trail for views of 19 historic churches. The Athens-Limestone Civil War Trail is a driving tour that will take you past battle sites at Sulphur Springs Trestle and Athens.
Belle Mont Mansion is a historic plantation home well worth a visit. The Alabama Music Hall of Fame honors the contributions of Alabama musicians, and the Alabama Veterans Museum & Archives celebrates residents who served in the military. Learn about Alabama’s role in the Civil War at the North Alabama Civil War Museum, or view regional artifacts at Cook’s Natural Science Museum. Special events at MSNHA include Rogersville First Saturdays featuring live entertainment, vendors, and food.
