Alabama college teams deliver plenty of excitement at home games. The University of Alabama’s Crimson Tide football team in Tuscaloosa welcomes over 100,000 fans to Bryant-Denny Stadium on fall Saturdays. The winter Iron Bowl features the Tide against longtime rivals, the Auburn Tigers. Basketball games take place at Coleman Coliseum and baseball games are played at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
Auburn University’s Tigers play football at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Seating 90,000, it’s considered one of the best home fields in the NCAA. Men’s and women’s basketball teams are frequent participants in NCAA March Madness tournaments. Home games are held at Auburn Arena. Catch a Tigers baseball game at Plainsman Park.
Samford University’s Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs boast 17 teams competing in the Southern Conference. See a football game at Seibert Stadium in Homewood, a short drive from Birmingham. Pete Hanna Center hosts home basketball games and Joe Lee Griffin Stadium is the home field for baseball.

Despite not being the largest school in Alabama, the Auburn University Tigers hold the hearts of residents all across the state, boasting noteworthy athletic alumni like Bo Jackson, Charles Barkley, and Cam Newton. Sports fans travel far and wide to the Auburn-Opelika area for a chance to catch the Tigers in action, as they scratch and claw the competition in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
Much like the rest of the country, during the fall, it’s all about Auburn football at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Seating nearly 90,000 navy and orange clad fans, Jordan-Hare is considered one of the best home field advantages in the NCAA. The former National Champions play roughly six home games each fall – catch the Tigers as they take on in state rivals, the Alabama Crimson Tide, during the annual Iron Bowl game.
During the winter, the Tigers fans turn their attention to the hardwood, as the men and women’s basketball teams take to the court at Auburn Arena. Competing in the SEC, both squads are frequent entries in the NCAA March Madness tournament, with the men’s team having the distinction of former National Champions. As the weather shifts, so too does fandom in Auburn. Yes, the Tigers softball and baseball teams are the pride of Auburn baseball, playing home games at Plainsman Park. Much like the rest of Auburn sports, both teams compete in the SEC, where they face-off with in state rivals the Crimson Tide for conference title honors. Plainsman Park seats over 4,000 fans, and is considered to be one of the top ball parks in all of college baseball when it comes to comfort and fan experience.

"Roll Tide!" That phrase is pretty commonly heard when exploring Tuscaloosa, home of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide.
The Tide have been thrilling sports fans for nearly as long as students have been enrolling at UA. In fact, sports fans frequently flock from nearby cities like Northport, Bessemer, and Demopolis. During the fall, it’s all about Crimson Tide football. The heavily decorated football team plays home games at Bryant-Denny Stadium; a behemoth of a college football stadium, seating over 100,000 loyal fans on fall Saturdays.
Be there for the Iron Bowl this winter, as the Crimson Tide annually take-on Southeastern Conference (SEC) rivals, the Auburn Tigers, for what’s considered a one of college football’s biggest games of the year. As the fall fades and winter begins to set in, sports fans in central Alabama shift their focus to the Crimson Tide basketball teams. The men and women’s squads play home games at Coleman Coliseum and Foster Auditorium, respectively, where they’ve combined for over 15 NCAA tournament appearances and multiple SEC titles.
When the weather warms up in the spring and summer, America’s pastime is well represented in Tuscaloosa, as the Crimson Tide baseball and softball teams look to hang another SEC championship banner in the rafters. Catch all the action this summer – the baseball team plays home games at Sewell-Thomas Stadium, while the softball squad strikes out the competition at Rhoads Stadium.

Samford University Bulldogs
Plenty of Bark & Bite
It’s not all crimson and orange here in Alabama. In fact, there’s plenty of blue and red, especially in the central AL city of Homewood. The Samford University Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs are the pride of the Birmingham suburb, as they combine to field 17 varsity teams competing in the Southern Conference (SEC).
While Samford football may not possess the national notoriety some of the other Alabama schools do, that hasn’t kept Homewood sports fans from being passionate about their football team.
See for yourself at Seibert Stadium; a small, but raucous outdoors stadium, seating just fewer than 7,000 fans on game day. It’s not all pigskin pride at Samford U, however. The Bulldogs field a variety of competitive intercollegiate sports, including cross country, track and field, golf, tennis, volleyball, and more. Many of the school’s intercollegiate teams make a home at the Sullivan-Conney Family Field House.
Over at Joe Lee Griffin Stadium, the Bulldogs baseball team takes the field each and every summer, hoping to earn another berth into the NCAA Tournament. Likewise the Lady Bulldogs softball squad plays home games at the aptly named Bulldog Softball Field, also during the spring and summer months.
Winter in Homewood means it’s time for hoops at the Pete Hanna Center. The Bulldogs’ b-ball squad, both the men and women’s, have made multiple appearances in the NCAA March Madness Tournament since their inaugural seasons, and they’ll look to add to that success this year.
UAB Blazers
The Blazers of Birmingham
It’s all about the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Blazers in the Magic City. The UAB Blazers field nearly 20 intercollegiate teams, participating in sports like basketball, football, soccer, golf, swimming, and more. All of the Blazers athletics compete within Conference USA, many being rivals with Southern Miss, and instate school, Troy University.
If you’re looking to join UAB’s beloved mascot, Blaze, in cheering on the Blazers this season, pack some forest green and gold, and check out some of the school’s sports teams across campus. Although they’ve taken a short break from action in recent years, the UAB Blazers football team is back, and just about set to play home games at Legion Field Stadium once again.
The pride of central Alabama, the Blazers play up to six home games each year, frequently packing the over 70,000 seats at Legion Field Stadium. Catch the Blazers this fall, as they look to build on their Bowl Game record and defeat in state rivals, the Troy Trojans.
When football season is over, UAB Blazers b-ball is just getting going. One of the region’s best teams, the Blazers men’s basketball team also has the distinction of being the school’s very first sports teams. The Blazers’ men and women’s basketball teams run the hardwood at Bartow Arena each and every winter; catch a game this season and help the Blazers make a return to the NCAA March Madness Tournament.
During the spring and summer, sports fans across the nation turn their attention the America’s pastime, and it’s no different in Birmingham. The UAB Blazers men and women’s baseball and softball teams also are Conference USA members, playing home games at Jerry D. Young Memorial Field.
Unique to UAB, the Blazers soccer clubs are highly decorated and widely celebrated. Featuring both a men and women’s team, Blazers soccer takes place at BBVA Compass Field; join the legions of forest green and gold as they sing “God Bless America” in unison at each home game. It’s widely considered one of the top college sports traditions in the nation.
