Whether you want to squeeze in a quick game or spend a week on the links, Alabama golf courses offer a variety of challenges. The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, named for the famous golf course architect, includes 26 public courses. Tee off on the shores of the Gulf Coast, perfect your game near downtown Birmingham, or practice putting with views of the Tennessee River. Lakewood Golf Club, on Mobile Bay in scenic Point Clear, has hosted luminaries like President Ford and Bob Hope on its two 18-hole courses.

Magnolia Grove Golf Course in Mobile is easily accessible from I-10. Choose from three different courses including the only par-71 course on the RTJ Trail. Highland Oaks in Dothan features three nine-hole championship courses and a short course. Birmingham boasts 54-hole Oxmoor Valley Golf Course, and the Ross Bridge Golf Course, one of the world’s longest courses.

Grand National Golf Course in Opelika offers three stunning courses near Lake Saugahatchee. Northern Alabama boasts Silver Lakes, a 36-hole course in Glencoe. Hampton Cove, near Huntsville, features 54 holes with a Scottish Links design. In Montgomery, head for the Capitol Hill Golf Course with three 18-hole courses appropriately named Senator, Legislator and Judge.

Found in the city of Pelham, Ballantrae Golf Club opened in 2004, and was designed by Robert E. Cupp, ASGCA. This 18-hole course features a par of 72, a course rating of 74.5, and a slope rating of 130. As you explore the Pelham area, head east of downtown and you'll find Ballantrae GC along Ballantrae Club Drive and Ballantrae Parkway.

Cambrian Ridge Golf Course

Frequently featured on "best of" lists from magazines like Golf Digest, Cambrian Ridge offers 36 holes, where golfers can tee-off in some of the most beautiful places in southern Alabama. These courses are a part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, which in itself is famous for its world class amenities and bargain prices.

Take your pick among four 9-hole courses – the Canyon, known for its target-style golf, the gentle Loblolly, the Sherling which straddles Sherling Lake, and the Short Course. Play a full round of golf by combining the Canyon, Loblolly, and Sherling or play 9 holes on the Short Course. The choice is yours at this course near Greenville.

Capitol Hill Golf Course

Covering over 1,500 acres, the Capitol Hill Golf Course makes up one of the most well equipped entries on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. The course features three 18-hole championship courses set in the natural beauty of southern Alabama – just south of Clanton on Interstate 65.

Tee off from either the Judge Course along the Alabama River, the Legislator Course along pine trees and cypress swamps, or the Senator Course, which features mounds 20 to 40 feet high. The course has been acclaimed as one of the top 50 golf courses in the U.S. by publications like Golf Magazine and the Zagat Survey.

Grand National Golf

A designated member of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course Trail, the Grand National golf course graces the landscape near Opelika in southern Alabama. Avid golfers love the 54-hole facility surrounding scenic Lake Saugahatchee – recently placed in the top 10 of affordable U.S. courses by Golf Digest.

Golfers take their pick from three courses – the Lake, which lines the banks of Lake Saugahatchee, the Links, one of the best on the trail, and the Short, featuring 18 one-shotters in view of the lake.

Hampton Cove Golf Course

Lying at the northern end of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, the Hampton Cove provides 54 holes of varied scenic terrain near Huntsville in northern Alabama. The course complex features three courses with a throwback Scottish Links design. Golfers visiting Hampton Cove will find their skills tested – the Highlands Course features a challenging finish, while the River Course navigates the flood plains of the Flint River. The Short Course sports a links-like design and features alternating tees.

Hidden Meadows Golf Course

Be sure to pack your clubs before you depart for your next adventure in Alabama. The Heart of Dixie offers up a wide range of things to do – there are excellent Civil War sites to see, family-first attractions sure to thrill, and a host of festivals to explore all year. In central Alabama, be sure to book a tee time for the Hidden Meadows Golf Club.

A premier attraction in Northport, Hidden Meadows GC is adjacent to Lake Lurleen State Park, and easily accessed via Rose Blvd. or State Route 171. The course itself is 18 holes and plays to a par of 72. Hidden Meadows opened in 1996, and was designed by Mike Young. The slope rating at Hidden Meadows is 151, and it's course rating of 73.7.

Highland Oaks Golf Course

Named by Golf Digest as one of the country's Great Value courses, the Highland Oaks course is one of southern Alabama's premier golf attractions. As part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, Dothan's Highland Oaks covers world class greens with top amenities and country club facilities.

The Highlands Course features the core nine holes in the complex while the Magnolia Course is named for the magnolia trees alongside the greens. Meanwhile, the Marshwood Course is noted for its challenging holes while the Short Course features nine par 3's and excellent putting greens.

Kiva Dunes Golf Club

There's no lack of adventure to be found in Alabama. From the historic and important Civil War sites, to an array of family-first attractions, the Heart of Dixie yields fun-filled days for all members of the family. When your visit leads you to the deep south along the coast, be sure to book a tee time at the Kiva Dunes Golf Club.

An easy drive in from nearby Orange Beach, Kiva Dunes Golf Club is one of the state's premier golf experiences. With a par of 72, a max length of 7,092 yards, and a course rating of 73.9, Kiva Dunes offers challenges to all skill levels. Opened in 2015, Kiva Dunes was designed by Jerry Pate, and is most easily accessed from Fort Morgan Road.

Lakewood Golf Club

Recognized for its excellence by Golf Magazine, Lakewood Golf Club is a Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail designated course found on the Gulf Coast just west of Foley. Lakewood neighbors Mobile Bay and houses two separate courses intertwined with Clear Point Creek and Lily Lake for unmatched scenery.

The 18-hole Azalea Course is famed for its centerpiece 14th hole – an island green surrounded by water that demands expert approaches. The Dogwood Course, on the other hand, winds around the local marshes and challenge each golfer's strategic decision at every turn.

Magnolia Grove Golf Course

Lying at the southern end of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, Magnolia Grove is one of the premiere golfing destinations on the Gulf Coast. The course was recently named in the top 50 public courses by Golf World Magazine and is considered by Golf Digest as one of the "Places to Play" in the U.S.

Golfers can tee off from one of two 18-hole courses at this Mobile destination. The Crossings Course features open parkland and waterfront – it also hosts the LPGA Tour every year. The Falls Course is the only par-71 course on the trail. And finally, the Short Course is considered by Golf Digest as the best par-3 course in the U.S.

Oxmoor Valley Golf Course

Found near the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains, the Oxmoor Valley Golf Course is a public course located in the heart of Birmingham. This central Alabama course is a part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. Oxmoor houses three world-class courses – the Ridge Course, which features roller coaster fairways, the Valley Course, which runs downwards along a slender tree-lined valley, and the Short Course utilizes elevation changes to present a rewarding collection of one-shotters.

Ross Bridge Golf Course

One of the longest golf courses in the world, the Ross Bridge Golf Course is a signature component of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. The course is located in the city of Hoover – which is just outside of Birmingham in central Alabama. The 18 greens of this course occupy the natural scenery found in the Shannon Valley and represent a fun challenge to golfers of all skill levels.

Silver Lakes Golf Course

Set on the rolling foothills of the Appalachians, the Silver Lakes Golf Course features 36 holes and renovated putting surfaces, making for some of the best golf in central Alabama. With four distinctive courses, this property near Gadsden is part of the world class Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail and provides excellent country club amenities.

Golfers and photographers alike love the Backbreaker nine's stunning views of the Appalachian foothills, while those looking for a technical challenge will feel right at home on the aptly named Heartbreaker nine. The Mindbreaker nine lives up to its name through its varied uphill and downhill approaches and the nine-hole Short Course makes for a relaxing round beside Lee's Lake.

The Shoals Golf Course

Set on the northern end of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, the Shoals Golf Course is home to two 18-hole championship courses in northern Alabama. Found near Russellville, the course features links named after prominent figures in history – including the Fighting Joe Course and the Schoolmaster Course.

The links are positioned between the Wheeler Dam and Wilson Dam on the Tennessee River. The Fighting Joe Course is one of the longest on the trail and offers straightforward golf, while the Schoolmaster Course sports tree-lined views and offers a more natural topography on the high bluffs of the river.

Twin Bridges Golf Club

Once dubbed the "best new affordable golf course" by Golf Digest, the Twin Bridges Golf Club is a public course located in northern Alabama in the city of Gadsden. Set on the Coosa River, the Twin Bridges is a 6,800-yard, 18-hole course, with a par of 72.

The course, designed by renowned course architects Gene Bates, welcomes golfers all skill levels with four sets of tees. The course is also part of the Audubon's Silver Signature Sanctuary Program, helping to preserve natural ecosystems in the area.
