Explore The Alamo & Spanish Missions

The Alamo, one of San Antonio’s most iconic landmarks, is famous for its role in the Battle of the Alamo. In 1836, 200 Texans made a stand for independence against Mexico, but after 13 days, the Alamo fell. Davy Crockett, a real-life soldier, lost his life during this historic battle.

In addition to the Alamo, San Antonio is home to a series of five Spanish missions built in the 18th century along the river. These missions—Mission San Antonio de Padua, Mission San José (The Alamo), Mission Concepción, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada—are the largest concentration of missions in North America and were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can explore these historic sites along the Mission Trail in the San Antonio Missions National Historic Park.
