Outdoor Fun in De Soto National Forest
Located just north of Gulfport and Biloxi, Desoto National Forest is one of six National Forests in Mississippi and a must-see for any outdoor enthusiast visiting the Magnolia State. A four-seasons destination, you’ll find it easy to enjoy activities like canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, and fishing.
This 400,000-acre forest is home to two wilderness areas: Black Creek Wilderness and Leaf River Wilderness. A National Wild and Scenic River, Black Creek is the only river of its kind in Mississippi. De Soto also encompasses two National Recreational Trails: Black Creek Trail and Tuxachanie Trail – together creating more than 60 miles of hiking trails. Outdoor enthusiasts can canoe in Black Creek, zip down the Rattlesnake Bay and Bethel ATV trails, or go horseback riding down the Big Foot horse trail.
