Vicksburg National Military Park
Sitting on over 1,800 acres, Vicksburg National Military Park preserves the site of the Civil War Battle of Vicksburg in 1863. With over 700,000 visitors every year, this historic site features a massive collection of must-see Civil War landmarks sure to please any history buff.
Visitors can experience the park via 16-mile tour road or the 12-mile walking trial – both feature must-see artifacts like two antebellum homes, actual Civil War weaponry, trenches, and the restored USS Cairo sitting on the Yazoo River. Don’t miss stops along the way include sites like Ransom’s Gun Path and Battery De Golyer that showcase some of the real-life battlefields from 1863 – cannons and all. Also, the Vicksburg National Cemetery and Shirley House are integral sites at the park and are absolute must-sees. Perhaps on the more noteworthy landmarks at the park isn’t actually the land at all – the USS Cairo, peacefully sitting atop the Yazoo River, is available for tours and visitation.
