The Mississippi River is one of the most iconic bodies of water in the USA. Running along the western edge of Mississippi, the Mississippi River is, essentially, the border separating MS and it's two western neighbors – Arkansas and Louisiana.

Tucked away in the southwest corner of MS you'll find the Clark Creek Natural Area in Woodville – just south of Natchez and west of McComb. Explore the Clark Creek Natural Area and check out some waterfalls – a rarity for MS – or enjoy some time hiking along the Clark Creek Natural Area Nature Trail.
In Natchez, you'll be able to visit Natchez State Park, another shining example of state parks in Mississippi. There are boat ramps around the lake to help you set sail on your boating and fishing adventure, a nearly one mile long nature trail perfect for a lively hike, a playground for the kiddos, and a fun nine-hole Disc Golf course. Visit during October and check out the annual Great Mississippi Balloon Race, a favorite of Natchez locals. You'll want to also carve out some time to visit the House on Ellicot's Hill and the annual Natchez Food & Wine Festival.
As the only state park in Mississippi with a wildlife preserve, Leroy Percy State Park is an ideal destination for you and the family. Found almost directly north of Vicksburg in Hollandale, Leroy Percy State Park features two unique nature trails – the Alligator Lake Trail takes you through the Delta Hardwood Forest after a pass around the lake, while the Black Bayou Trail guides you through the bayou area of the park.
Fishing is a popular activity at Leroy Percy – head for Alligator Lake and try your best to land a bass, bream, or catfish. Leroy Percy State Park also happens to be one of the most popular hunting destinations along the Mississippi River – aim for deer, turkey, duck, or squirrel. Make the scenic drive in from Yazoo City or Canton once you've purchased your hunting license.
Just south of Vicksburg you can head for the Grand Gulf Military State Park. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Grand Gulf Military State Park is a charming destination and pleasant drive in from Clinton or Jackson.
Clark Creek Natural Area
Travel to the southwest corner of Mississippi and check out the Clark Creek Natural Area. A popular destination for outdoor lovers in the MS delta region, the Clark Creek Natural Area is found in Woodville, nearly equidistant from McComb to the east, and Natchez to the north.
At more than 700 acres in size, the Clark Creek Natural Area is unique for its waterfalls – there are nearly 50 to be found, some measuring up to 30 feet in height. The trails at Clark Creek Natural Area prove to be ideal for bird watching, hiking, and nature walks.
