Mississippi Blues Trail

Appreciating blues music is one thing but experiencing the Mississippi Blues Trail – a collection of venues, record labels, and radio stations where Mississippi Blues originated – is quite another. Visit the birthplaces of Robert Johnson, B.B. King, and even Elvis Presley, or the sites of famed record labels like Ace Records, Malaco Records, and Trumpet Records in Jackson.

Mississippi Delta towns like Tunica, Indianola, Lula, Greenwood and surrounding cities yield many trail markers for blues fans. See Charley Patton’s gravesite in Leland, the Dockery Plantation in Dockery, and tributes to Bertha Lee, Frank Frost, Robert Nighthawk and more – all in northern Mississippi.

Central Mississippi, includes markers for Cassandra Wilson, Arthur Crudup, Tommy Johnson, and many more Magnolia State musicians. Southern Mississippi sites include the American Blues Network in Gulfport, the site of Natchez Burning in Natchez, and McComb – the hometown of Bo Diddley.

While visiting Mississippi, don’t miss a chance to take a road trip to Vicksburg for the Vicksburg Riverfest and see tributes to Willie Dixon and the Red Tops, or head to Meridian to see the tribute to Jimmie Rodgers.
