Mississippi Racing

Racing is not new to Mississippi. Ever since the days of Lake Speed – the famed driver from Jackson – the raceways of Mississippi have never collected much dust.

Central Mississippi hosts the Whynot Motorsports Park east of Meridian, while Columbus is home to the Magnolia Motor Speedway in northern Mississippi.

Want to spend some time on the coast in southern Mississippi? Head to Gulfport or Biloxi for some intense drag racing at the Gulfport Dragway.

Speedways of Meridian

Meridian – the sixth largest city in the state – is set 100 miles east of Jackson in central Mississippi. This former railroad town has a storied past, but is also home to a number of exciting raceways ready to kick some dirt in your face.

Check out kart racing at the Causeyville Raceway just off Highway 19 South, or catch one of the thrilling events at the Whynot Motorsports Park.

The Whynot Motorsports Park – also known as the Whynot Speedway – is your stop for stock car racing. Found at the intersection of JW Reynolds Road and Highway 19, visitors may choose from grandstand and pit admission – with children 5 years old and under admitted free.

Don’t miss Whynot’s yearly events like the Annual Winter Bash in January, the Mississippi Modified Series in May, and the Southern All Stars Super Late Models in June.

Causeyville Raceway

Found on in eastern Mississippi, the Causeyville Raceway is located in Meridian, and features a dirt oval track for kart racing.

Several classes of races are hosted at the raceway including Beginner Clone Red Plate, Jr. Gold FH, and Builder Prepared Choice – ideal for the Mississippi race fan.

Whynot Motorsports Park

The Whynot Motorsports Park features a dirt oval track near Meridian in central Mississippi. The track hosts weekly Late Model Series, UMP Open Wheel Modified, Street Stock and Mini Stock races. Bring the family to the track for a night of fun at the races.

While in Meridian, visit the Frank W. Williams Home, the Merrehope Mansion, or the Meridian Museum of Art for an enjoyable afternoon.

Columbus’ Raceways

Set in northern Mississippi, Columbus is a cultured city encompassing the Tennessee Williams Home and a number of impressive speedways.

The Columbus Speedway – referred to as the Baddest Bullring in the South – is a high banked, 3/10-mile, red clay oval. Set just a few miles east of Columbus off U.S. Highway 82, this speedway hosts year-round events like the Weekly Racing Series, as well as the annual Magnolia State 100 and the annual James King Memorial. Check their online calendar or call ahead to see what family-friendly events are coming up.

Yet another notable track in the Columbus area is the Magnolia Motor Speedway – a 3/8-mile dirt oval set at the intersection of U.S. Highway 82 and U.S. Highway 45. Home of the anticipated Cotton Pickin' 100 event, this speedway is know as the South’s premier dirt track.

Columbus Speedway

Known as the "Baddest Bullring in the South," the Columbus Speedway hosts several championship racing events throughout the year. The high-banked, 3/10-mile clay oval track in Columbus offers intense racing action in all the classes of races.

Enjoy watching Street Stock, Open-Wheel Modified, and Mini Stock races. Bring your family and friends to watch high-speed racing and top name talent in northern Mississippi.

The Gulfport Dragway

Gulfport is a family-friendly city found along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico in southern Mississippi. Kid-friendly attractions include sandy beaches, the Marine Life Oceanarium, and the exciting Gulfport Dragway.

Formally the Magnolia Dragway, the Gulfport Dragway has been a popular Gulf Coast track since 1972. Catch 1/4 and 1/8-mile drag races ranging from amateur to advanced – featuring everything from car, truck and motorcycle races. Don’t miss the monthly King of the Hill event, or the popular Bracket Drag Racing at the dragstrip.

Magnolia Motor Speedway

A 3/8-mile dirt oval track, the Magnolia Motor Speedway is located in Columbus in northeastern Mississippi. The track hosts Super Late Models, Street Stocks, NeSmith Late Models, and Mini Stock car races – plus hundreds of race fans.

Mississippi race fans love the high-speed excitement at this state-of-the-art track. The track is home of the annual Cotton Pickin' 100, Possum Town Grand Prix, Lucas Oil Series, PRO Series, and SAS Late Model Series races.
