Independence Day in DC
Plus More Summer Celebrations
Summer is an exciting time for Washington D.C. Parades, carnivals, and festivals crowd the Capitol streets, while visitors anticipate heritage celebrations, live music, and of course, the best Fourth of July festivities.
Kick off your summer with the National Memorial Day Parade along Constitution Avenue, followed by kid-friendly event like Celebrate Fairfax! and Imagination Bethesda.
Held at the Fairfax County Government Center in early June, the Fairfax celebration includes live music, fireworks, carnivals, petting zoos, and the Crafts Market and Community Marketplace.
Set in downtown Bethesda, Imagination Bethesda is a free, children’s street festival in early June – and features kid-friendly musicians and theater troops, plus face painting and balloonists.
June also brings festivities fit for a more adult crowd. Set in Centreville, the Vintage Virginia Wine Festival takes place at the Bull Run Regional Park in early June. Attendees enjoy live music, art exhibits, great food, and samples of over 250 wines from more than 50 Virginia wineries.
More live music comes to the Capitol in June, so don’t miss the DC Jazz Festival – featuring over 100 jazz musicians performing at venues throughout the D.C. area.
Where better a place to celebrate the Fourth of July than the Capitol? Independence Day festivals hum throughout Washington D.C., and include parades, concerts, carnivals, and of course, massive fireworks shows.
Check out DC’s Independence Day Parade, 4th of July at the National Archives, and A Capitol Fourth Concert – featuring the National Symphony Orchestra and a Washington Monument firework display. Events outside of the National Mall include Independence Day at Mount Vernon, and celebrations in Arlington, Alexandria, and Rockville.
