Bass River State Forest
Encompassing 27,635 acres of land, Bass River State Forest in Tuckerton was established in 1905 by the New Jersey Legislature. During the 1930s and 1940s, the men employed through the Civilian Conservation Corps built trails, bridges, roads, lookout towers, ponds, cabins, shelters, and lakes, including the 67-acre Lake Absegami.
For a day of fun on the water, bring along your canoe (or rent one) for paddling on the lake or drop in a line to try your best at fishing for sunfish, catfish, and pickerel. Enjoy trekking along the 50-mile Batona Trail through the forest and keep a lookout for the birds and animals along the way. Enjoy walking through the Absegami Natural Area, featuring a wetland forest with Atlantic white cedars and red maple trees.
Mercer County Park
Encompassing over 2,500 acres near Bordentown, the Mercer County Park is a mecca for the athletically inclined in New Jersey's Delaware River region. The park's athletic facilities include outdoor fields used for soccer, football, and lacrosse, the Finn Caperson Rowing Center, indoor courts, and so much more.
Mercer Lake in the center of the park feature fishing facilities, a boathouse and marina, and a crew course. Those wanting to get in touch with the outdoors can use the park's nature and hiking trails, picnic areas, and dog parks, or Grandparent's Cove adjacent to the lake.
