You’ll Find Fascinating History in Pennsylvania’s Government Buildings
Located in downtown Harrisburg, the Pennsylvania State Capitol Complex features the Pennsylvania State Archives, the State Museum of Pennsylvania, and the Pennsylvania State Capitol building. A major attraction of Pennsylvania Dutch Country, the Pennsylvania State Capitol was built in 1902, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark. This Beaux-Arts style building houses the PA General Assembly, and offers daily tours.
Other state agencies that are a part of this complex include the Pennsylvania Judicial Center, and the Matthew Ryan Legislative Office Building.
When visiting the complex, carve out some time for a tour of the State Museum of Pennsylvania. This museum includes a multi-media planetarium, four floors of exhibits covering Pennsylvania’s history - from prehistoric times through current events. Among the exhibits are a large collection of artifacts and displays related to the Civil War, and vast collection of industrial and technology innovations, Artwork, and paintings.
