Fuzzy, Furry, And Ferocious – Enjoy Great Zoos in Virginia
Get up close and personal with animals of all stripes when you come to Virginia. Kids and adults alive enjoy the zoos, stables, and farms waiting here for you.
In Norfolk, the Virginia Zoo has 350 animals representing 115 species. Hop on the Trail of the Tiger to see otters, orangutans, gibbons, tapirs and, of course, tigers. The Okavango Delta has lions, tigers, zebra, and ostriches. This zoo has been around since 1900!
Up on a mountaintop above Roanoke, the Mill Mountain Zoo is home to 85 animals, three of which are from endangered species. Walk through the Reptile House, enjoy the interactive aviary, and see the Canadian lynx.
The Metro Richmond Zoo has a jungle carousel, safari sky ride, and safari train. It’s especially popular for its giraffe-feeding station.
In Newport News, the Virginia Living Museum showcases the state’s indigenous species – there are animals from the mountains, the coast, and the Piedmont.
At Magic Mountain Farm in Winchester you can ride Tennessee walking horses and hunter ponies, and Fox Wire Farm has llamas, alpacas, horses, and pigs to pet. In Virginia, Hunt Club’s Petting Farm is free for kids – make sure to bring your camera!
