Go Off-Line at One-Of-A-Kind Chincoteague

Located miles offshore and what seems like worlds away from the bustle of many Atlantic beaches, Chincoteague is a unique island village home to desolate beaches and stunning wildlife.

Located on the Delmarva Peninsula just south of the Maryland state line, Chincoteague is perched on a small barrier island where you won’t find boardwalks, sprawling resorts, night clubs, or fine dining experiences. But if you are looking for a beach vacation devoid of crowds and sensory overload, this is the spot you’ve been missing all your life.

In the village of Chincoteague, you can sign up for cruises, hire a fishing charter, feast on fresh seafood, fill your cooler with farm-fresh produce, and indulge in ice cream or a cold beer. Make sure to visit the island’s two museums – Beebe Ranch and the Museum of Chincoteague Island.

Off the island’s street, tours and outfitters can take you to meet some of the state’s most famous residents – the Chincoteague ponies, about 150 of which live on the Virginia side of neighboring Assateague Island. Make sure to see them at the annual Pony Penning Day and read about them in the famous children’s book from 1947, Misty of Chincoteague.
