George Washington & Jefferson National Forests
The George Washington and Jefferson national forests stretch over 350 miles across western Virginia – encompassing 1.8 million acres of public land near Wytheville.
The Blue Ridge Parkway and portions of Shenandoah National Park are included in the forests. Over 40 species of trees, 200 species of birds and 100 species of fish and mussels make their homes in the forests.
Recreational activities are plentiful in the forests. Favorite activities include hiking 2,000 miles of hiking trails, including the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, exploring 60 miles of ATV routes, hunting, hang-gliding, geocaching, fishing, cycling, and horseback riding.
