From sprawling suburban malls to tony uptown shopping districts, you’ll find a shop in Virginia with your name on it. Hunt for antiques, shop for high art, or cruise country roads looking for hidden gems – Virginia has it all!

In McLean, Tysons Corner Center has been rated as one of the nation’s top 10 shopping centers. There’s a mind-boggling mix of stores here – choose from more than 300 specialty and department stores, including big-name anchors and locals’ favorites – look for Apple, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and American Girl.

Potomac Mills in Woodbridge is massive – you could get a full workout just walking from end to end! There are more than 200 outlet stores here, including Last Call by Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th, Nordstrom Rack, and a Nike Factory Store. You can also refuel at Starbucks and dine at one of the 25 food stores, then knock off and see a show at the 18-screen movie theater.

When you are in Charlottesville you have to check out the historic downtown mall. This pedestrian-only arcade stretches from Old Preston Avenue east to Ninth Street Southeast and the covered stage. Along this seven-block stretch of brick street you can find art galleries, yoga studios, restaurants, and great spots for window shopping. Street vendors hawk wares and there are plenty of places to hear music.

In Williamsburg, Merchants Square incorporates the atmosphere and heritage of nearby Colonial Williamsburg to create an unparalleled shopping experience. Enjoy world-class food, great service, and high-quality and unique stores.

In Arlington, Fashion Centre at Pentagon City is a bustling urban spot just minutes from the nation’s capital and on the Washington, D.C. Metro system. Take a scenic glass elevator ride to the third floor and enjoy more than 170 stores ranging from Nordstrom and Ann Taylor to Armani Exchange and Apple.

Richmond is home to the Short Pump Mall, an outdoor mall full of high-end stores and luxury retailers as well as great restaurants. It’s beautiful at Christmas!

With Virginia’s long history you are guaranteed to find one-of-a-kind antiques. The list of great spots is long and there are antiques malls and hidden treasures in every corner of the state.

Find incredible antiques and cool gems at Black Dog Architectural Salvage and Antiques and hunt for treasures which trace their lineage to the founding of the nation at the Williamsburg Antique Mall. In Portsmouth, the Skipjack Nautical Wares and Marine Art Gallery has timeless treasures with a maritime flair. In Strasburg, Strasburg Emporium Antiques is the spot for local items, while Past Time Antique Emporium in Marion is lauded by visitors for its wide range of finds. The Roanoke Antique Mall is chock full of vendor booths and visitors say there are some great bargains.

Still on the hunt for antiques? Check out Factory Antique Mall in Verona, the highly-rated Charlotte’s Web Antique Mall in Salem, the huge West End Antiques Mall in Richmond, and the well-loved Blue Moon Antique Mall and Bookstore in Lovingston.

When you are cruising Virginia’s winding back roads, make sure to stop in at some of the state’s great country stores – these spots can be full of local flavor and unexpected surprises!

Layne’s Country Store in Glasgow has old-fashioned country jams, pickles, and candy, plus all the fixings for a great picnic lunch. In Culpeper, Ole Country Store and Bakery has sandwiches, baked goods, bulk foods, snacks, and candy. Honey fans will want to stop at The Battlefield Country Store in Fredericksburg – here you can pick up local wildflower, thistle, and orange blossom honeys.

Ruckersville’s Country Store Antique Mall is a fun shop for shopping fiends – there’s a great book selection, plenty of antiques, and gobs of stuff to look at. Rockfish Gap Country Store in Afton has tons of local-made crafts for sale plus antiques and funky finds. In Winchester, Throx Country Store has knowledgeable staff who love to chat about local history, and you can score some hard-to-find beers, local mead, and enjoy a great lunch at the counter out back.

Art mavens won’t be bored in Old Dominion – there are art galleries all over the state. In Richmond, Chasen Galleries is a well-established community icon showcasing fine arts from paintings to glass and from both emerging and established artists. In Williamsburg, the Williamsburg Art Gallery has friendly staff and a great setting – it’s well-known for its paintings. Principle Gallery in Alexandria specializes in oil paintings and bronze sculptures. Art First Galley in Fredericksburg has paintings plus jewelry.

Take a break from the surf when you are in Virginia Beach and visit 21st Street Art Gallery – the store has an eclectic mix of fine art and approachable gifts. Also, in Virginia Beach, Richard Stravitz Sculpture has incredible sculptures in a variety of price ranges plus beautiful paintings.

Fashion Centre at Pentagon City

The largest enclosed shopping center in Arlington, Fashion Centre at Pentagon City is quad leve structure, sporting 170 retail shops and restaurants. Opened in 1989, Fashion Center at Pentagon City features Macy's and Nordstrom as it's cornerstone department stores. Guests of the Best Western hotels in nearby Alexandria and McLean - even those in the Richmond area don't mind the scenic drive north - enjoy a close proximity to Fashion Centre at Pentagon City. After a few days of exploring the sights and natural beauty of Richmond area, take a stroll around Fashion Centre at Pentagon City and pick a few souvenirs.

Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets

Set 35 minutes from Washington D.C., Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets is located in northern Virginia in the city of Leesburg. Located at the intersection of Route 7 and the US 15 Bypass, the outlets are open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets features stores like Kate Spade New York, Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger Kids, Kenneth Cole, Coach, and more. Frequent guests of the outlets may join the VIP Shopper Club for additional savings.

Potomac Mills Outlet Mall

Located along Interstate 95, the Potomac Mills Outlet Mall is located in northern Virginia in the city of Woodbridge. Opened in 1985, Potomac Mills is a massive, one-story shopping mall within the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.

Featuring 1,606,000-square-feet of retail space, Potomac Mills offers 225 stores, an 18-screen movie theater, food court, and more. Owned by the Simon Property Group, the mall was developed by the Mills Corporation.

Reston Town Center

Set 20 miles west of Washington D.C., the Reston Town Center is located in northern Virginia in Reston, just southeast of Sterling. Found six miles east of the Washington Dulles International Airport, RTC features shops, restaurants, office buildings, and more.

The Reston Town Center features 50 retail shops, 30 eateries, a multi-screen movie theater, and the iconic Mercury Fountain. RTC also hosts festivals, concerts, and even an ice-skating rink come winter.

Tysons Corner Center

Opening in 1968, Tysons Corner Center is located in Fairfax County near McLean – found in northern Virginia outside of the Washington D.C. area. Virginia’s largest shopping mall, the center features over 300 stores amongst three stories.

Developed by Lerner Enterprises, Tysons Corner Center offers Crate and Barrel, Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and much more. Tysons is famous for hosting the first L.L. Bean outside of Maine, Nordstrom away from the West Coast, Microsoft Store away from the northeast, and the first ever Apple Store.

Independent Bookshops in Washington DC

The Capitol Region is teeming with history and information, from museums and monuments to historic universities, and yes, cute little bookstores.

Books for America
1417 22nd Street NW, DC A non-profit bookstore set in Dupont Circle, Books for America is a non-profit bookshop known throughout the DC region as the "Bookstore with a Purpose." Open daily since 2005, this used bookstore donates consigned books to schools and shelters.

Capitol Hill Books
657 C Street SE, DC Open daily, this crowded but quaint bookshop is located on Capitol Hill, neighboring the Eastern Market. A member of the Washington Antiquarian Booksellers' Association, this used books store was opened in 1991 – and offers the impressive Mystery Room.

Kramerbooks & Afterwords Café
1517 Connecticut Avenue NW, DC Another Dupont Circle bookstore, Kramerbooks was established in 1976, and features everything from coffee and food to music, special events, and of course, books. This independent bookseller is known for its picturesque outdoor seating at Afterwords Café – open 24 hours Fridays and Saturdays.

The Lantern
3241 P Street NW, DC Found in DC’s Georgetown neighborhood, The Lantern was opened in 1977, and donates proceeds to the higher education of women. Also known as the Bryn Mawr Bookshop, this used bookstore is closed Mondays, and gives you your fifth book free.

Politics & Prose
5015 Connecticut Avenue NW, DC This being DC, you’ll need to browse Politics & Prose – where you’ll not only find an expansive political section, but author events, classes, music, and coffee. This DC bookstore and coffeehouse is open daily, and located on Connecticut Avenue.

Second Story Books
2000 P Street NW, DC Check out the Rare Book Room at Second Story Books – a 1974 independent bookstore set in Dupont Circle (with a second location in Rockville). Specializing in out-of-print and unique used books, Second Story is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Dulles Town Center Mall

Set in Loudoun County, the Dulles Town Center Mall is a two-story shopping center set in Potomac – just north of Sterling. Featuring over 200 stores across 1,400,000 square feet of retail space, Dulles Town Center is the largest of its kind in the county.

Opened in 1999, the mall is owned and operated by Lerner Enterprises. Covering 554 acres in northern Virginia, Dulles Mall offers shops like Nordstrom, Macy's, Lord & Taylor, JCPenney, Sears, Dicks’s Sporting Goods, Banana Republic, Swarovski, and more.
