Experience Central Virginia Race Tracks

You'll have a wide range of attractive, interesting, and fun things to see and do in Virginia. From it's historic landmarks, natural wonders, and scenic and beautiful parks, Virginia is a warm and welcoming destination. While those options are always good for all members of the family, don't forget about the excellent racing you'll find in the central region of the state.

Explore these premier race tracks the next time you visit Richmond and Petersburg.

The Richmond International Raceway opened in 1946 as the Atlantic Rural Exposition Fairgrounds. Since 1988, it's been known as Richmond International Raceway – RIR, for short. An asphalt track, Richmond International Raceway measures in at 3 quarters of a mile long, and is a classic "D" shape.

Visit from nearby Hopewell, or Glen Allen, and experience some of the most elite racing in the country – RIR hosts annual events like the Toyota Owners 400, and the Federated Auto Parts 400, both races on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Fans of the NASCAR Nationwide Series can check out the ToyotaCare 250, or the Virginia 529 College Savings 250.

In Petersburg, not far from Doswell, and South Hill, the Virginia Motorsports Park thrills and entertains fans with high energy races. Many race fans head for the Virginia Motorsports Park to check out the popular drag strip, which hosts events like the annual Mid-Atlantic Challenge MAC Team Finals. At the Virginia Motorsports Park, you'll also find their Dirt Park, an ideal way to check out the mud bogs, motocross, and tractor pulls. In early September each year, you'll also want to explore the Dinwiddle County Fair, held at the Virginia Motorsports Park.
