No matter what season you’re visiting Maine, take some time to explore some of the state’s top attractions and historic sites.

One of the most popular destinations in the state is the Boothbay Harbor. It’s been a yachting destination for years and is also a must-see roadside attraction. Head here to see the beautiful boats and shop at Meadow Mall for some souvenirs. The Maine State Aquarium isn’t too far from here so you can make a day of touring the area.

You can see wildlife playing in their natural habitats with a trip to the Steve Powell Wildlife Management Area. It’s located just north of Freeport and boasts miles of hiking trails, beautiful rivers and lakes, and plenty of natural territory for wildlife viewing. During the summer months, head to Swan Island to swim in the Kennebec River. You can also head here for a leaf peeping tour during the fall.

Maine is home to several historic sites and natural attractions that were first discovered by French explorers. The Saint Croix Island International Historic Site is located on the mouth of the Saint Croix River near Bar Harbor. Take a tour of the gardens to see some native flora and fauna, beautiful landscaping, and seasonal blooms. Stop by the Maine State House in Augusta for a tour of this striking building. The 185-foot tall copper dome is hard to miss and you can head to the Capitol grounds to see the state archives and Maine State Library.
