Discover Wildlife in Maine
Enjoy some time in the great outdoors with a day at the Steve Powell Wildlife Management Area. This is the perfect destination to spend a few hours wildlife viewing, hiking, and enjoying water sports around the recreation area. This site encompasses four miles and has become a major attraction in Maine.
This area is also known as Swan Island and you’ll find plenty of nature programs to see birds and wildlife in their natural habitats. Make your way to the Kennebac River to see bald eagles and other birds in action. This is a popular destination to spend the day canoeing or head off on the trials for a mountain biking adventure. Plan a picnic around the river during the warmer months to take in the beautiful scenery and enjoy nature at its finest.
The recreational site is about 20 miles south of Augusta and about 25 miles from Freeport, making it an easily-accessible destination for many visitors of Maine.
