Learn the New York History of Niagara Falls Area
Perhaps the most inclusive and eclectic American National Heritage Area can be found in Niagara Falls. See how this historic site honors the area’s importance to Native Americans, early European settlers in America, the American Revolution, the War of 1812, as well as the role that Niagara Falls played in the Underground Railroad.
Few institutions have displayed a more diverse and comprehensive account of the contributions of so many different groups of people to the Niagara Falls region and to America as a whole.
Head on over to the Adams Power Plant Transformer House and see the only remaining structure from the Edward Dean Adams Power Plant; the world’s first alternating current electric generating plant.
Go for a stroll on Niagara Falls State Park; the first state park in the United States. Learn about the region’s colonial history going back to the 17th century at the Colonial Niagara Historic District. While you’re there, check out Fort Niagara and learn more about the region’s military heritage.
