The Ocean State is home to the International Tennis Hall of Fame. The facility’s museum has nearly 2,000 objects cataloging the history of the sport, from the birth of tennis through its spreading popularity. Public and private courts are spread across the state. The Weekapaug Tennis Club offers play along the shores of the Atlantic, while the Narragansett Tennis Courts are close to that city’s famous harbor. The Newport Beach Club is a popular spot, as is the Centre Court Tennis Club near Providence. North of Providence you will find great tennis spots at the Fore Court and Highridge clubs. Tennis Rhode Island has locations in Warwick and East Providence and offers indoor courts, a racket center, and highly-rated lessons.
When you visit the ITHF, you'll find it south of downtown Newport, and a quick drive from Warwick. It's all held within the Newport Casino – not the modern day version of a casion, rather the Gilded Age version which equates to a "small villa built for pleasure." Tour the museum within the ITHF, and check out the many grass tennis courts on the grounds.
