Waterbury Reservoir in Vermont

Mountains, lakes, and rolling farmland form the scenery for a visit to Vermont. Every season offers beautiful views and new ways to explore. Take advantage of the outdoor activity options as you travel through the historic towns near the natural wonders.

Up north, Lake Champlain is the main attraction. The lake offers fishing and boating, and you can explore the historic lighthouses that dot its edges. Burlington and South Burlington are the main cities in the area. Visit the Church Street Marketplace, and Burlington Town Center for the region's best shopping.

One of Vermont's popular local breweries is in Burlington, the Magic Hat Brewing Company. For great live shows, check out Higher Ground in South Burlington, which draws popular bands and other performers.

Down south, plan a driving tour out of Bennington. Visit the Bennington Battle Monument, marking the site of a Revolutionary War battle and offering great views over the nearby mountains. The Bennington Museum offers a look at Vermont's history from the early years of the state through the Gilded Age. A great scenic drive near Bennington is the Mount Snow Loop, taking you through 100 picturesque miles.

The Bennington Center for the Arts showcases a blend of visual arts, performing arts, and Vermont traditions. Their permanent collection includes Native American and Wildlife Art; they host performances in their theater; and their Covered Bridge Museum explores the construction and design of those quaint structures. Try designing your own covered bridge and compare it to any of the five nearby (the state has more than 100 covered bridges overall).

Up high, Vermont's ski options include Killington, Stowe, Sugarbush, and Smugglers Notch. The ski areas offer many runs to challenge and thrill you, whatever your skill level. The Cochran Ski Area lets you tackle the same mountains where the medal-winning Cochran family trained. Snow tubing offers a gentler way to enjoy the winter weather. The mountains stay open in summer for hiking, mountain biking, and other warm weather fun.

Wherever you travel in the state, take time to taste the unique homegrown products. You'll find wineries, including mead and fruit wines, apple orchards yielding hard apple cider, local breweries and distilleries, and of course Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory. Delicious vacation memories await you in Vermont!
