Green Mountain National Forest
As you make plans to visit Vermont, be sure to prepare for an outdoor adventure filled with hikes, nature viewing, lakeside fun, and so much more. You'll find the action at the very impressive – if not massive – Green Mountain National Forest. At 399,151 acres in size, Green Mountain NF is the largest contiguous land mass in Vermont.
Established in 1932, Green Mountain NF is so large it weaves in and around counties like Bennington, Rutland, Addison, and even Windsor. Make the drive in from nearby Rutland or Bennington and check out this national forest. The North Zone features the Abbey Pond Trail – great for day hikes, while the South Zone is home to the very popular Bald Mountain.
