Shopping in Modern Malls and Historic Towns in Vermont

Whether you need to replace something you forgot at home or consider shopping as important to your travel as sightseeing, you'll find shops with everything you need in Vermont. You can choose from major brand offerings or only-in-Vermont shops for unique reminders of your trip.

Find designer discounts at Manchester Designer Outlets in Manchester, not far from Okemo. Besides fashion and home goods, the outlet center is home to the Vermont Butcher Shop, letting you pick up fresh local meats. Sign up for the VIP club to get extra discounts. There's another outlet center in Essex, near Burlington. The Essex Shoppes include brand stores like the Brooks Brothers Outlet plus local shops like Snowdrop Winter Apparel. (In Vermont, the right clothes for winter are key to enjoying the mountains and outdoor activities!) Essex Shoppes also has the Essex Cinemas, featuring the T-Rex (Theater Real EXtreme) large format movie experience.

If you're tired of malls, our charming small towns have great shopping in historic buildings. Head to the Woodstock, Vermont shopping district, filled with independent retail stores. The General Store dates back to 1886, and Vermont's oldest bookshop, from 1935, is also located here. Enjoy seeing the historic town while you browse the shops and galleries. Ludlow's downtown is filled with five blocks of family-owned shops featuring clothing, fabric, art, postcards, and more. The downtown in Montpelier, Vermont's capital, has fun shopping including a record store on the main street. All of downtown Bristol is a National Historic District and you can enjoy browsing shops with vintage goods, gifts, art, and home accessories.

No matter what you need, you'll find it at the Vermont Country Store, with two locations, in Weston and Rockingham. The owners' family settled in Vermont back in 1760, and the company is dedicated to serving their community. If you spend a lot of time in your kitchen, visit King Arthur Flour's Baker's Store in Norwich. Besides selling everything you need to bake perfectly back home, the company's baking school offers classes for all skill levels.

If you're here to hit the slopes during winter, take a break to hit the shops, too. Our ski mountains have great shopping in the villages at the foot of the mountain. You'll find everything you need to make you more comfortable, from ski accessories to sweaters, as well as gifts to bring back home.
