Umatilla National Forest
Sitting on 1.4 million acres, the Umatilla National Forest preserves many of eastern Oregon's diverse landscapes, including areas near the Blue Mountains and the city of Pendleton.
Passed by Lewis and Clark during their early 19th century journey to the Pacific, the forest features narrow ridges and lush grasslands, ranging in elevation from 1,600 to 1,800 feet.
Outdoor enthusiasts are invited to explore the 2,000 miles of forest roads and 715 miles of trails, either on foot, mountain bike, or vehicle.
Floating on the Grande Ronde River on a canoe, rowboat, raft or kayak is also a fun way to spend time outdoors.
