Columbia River, Cascades, & Liberty Lake
Fishermen rejoice – we’re heading to Washington. Found just north of the Columbia River and the Washington border, Kelso is an outdoor mecca packed with great sport fishing near the Mount St. Helens Volcanic Monument.
Make your way to the Cowlitz River and Toutle River for incredible salmon fishing, plus scenic surroundings and wildlife view. Summer travelers; visit the high mountain Coldwater Lake for trout fishing near Mount St. Helens, just east of town.
Of course the mighty Columbia River lines the southern border of Kelso/Longview, so pick a spot and start reeling in some sturgeon, salmon, and steelhead.
Just east of the Cascades, Washington’s south-central region yields even more fish to fry. The Columbia National Wildlife Refuge offers hook-and-line fishing for rainbow trout and largemouth bass to bluegill, walleye, and whitefish, while the nearby Potholes State Park and Moses Lake offers more opportunities to open your tackle box.
Set in eastern Washington, Liberty Lake is a scenic city located just east of Spokane on Interstate 90. Set on the Spokane River, Liberty Lake is named after the 711-acre fishery near the Idaho border. Grab some largemouth bass, perch, and trout from broodstock rainbow, yearling brown, and hatchery from this year ‘round lake in the Spokane Valley.
Thousands of additional fishing spots are scattered throughout the Evergreen State. Enjoy sport fishing in the Puget Sound, check out Lake Wenatchee in the Wenatchee National Forest near Leavensworth, and of course, the 80,000-acre Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area.
