Iowa Gardens: Beauty in Bloom

Reiman Gardens

Covering over 14 acres, Reiman Gardens is located on the campus of Iowa State University in the city of Ames – set in central Iowa. Located south of Jack Trice Stadium, the gardens are open throughout the year.

Originating in 1914, Reiman Gardens encompasses the Mahlstede Horticulture Learning Center, Christina Reiman Butterfly Wing, and the Conservatory Complex – including a gift shop. Other sites include Lake Helen, the Patty Jischke Children's Garden, the Hunziker Garden House, and more.

Salisbury House & Gardens

Des Moines is home to a number of historic locations, but the Salisbury House is certainly one-of-a-kind. The manor-style home was built in 1923 over 9 acres of land and attracts visitors year round for its massive collection of fine art, books, musical instruments, sculptures, and scenic beauty.

The house was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, and is now open to the public for tours. Moreover, events and private functions can be scheduled and rented out. Drive in from nearby Clive and enjoy your trek through central Iowa.

Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden

Found on the east bank of the Des Moines River, the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden is one of the most desirable, scenic destinations in Iowa. The project first began in 1929, but has since grown into one the most comprehensive collections of plant life in the United States.

The domed green house is home to over 1,200 different species of plant life, artistically designed and arranged to please even the most novice of gardeners while simultaneously serving and education purpose.
