Watch A Game at One of Kansas’ Sports Venues

Sports fans traveling through Kansas have a multitude of options for exciting sporting action, no matter what time of year you are visiting.

Cheer on the Kansas City Jayhawks and Memorial Stadium in Lawrence or watch the Wichita Thunder take the ice at Intrust Bank Arena in downtown Wichita. If you are visiting Wichita during the spring and early summer, you can see the Wichita Force play Champions Indoor Football games at Intrust.

Basketball enthusiast are going to want to see a game at Allen Fieldhouse, the Sunflower State’s largest indoor arena, also part of the University of Kansas. Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams claim this as home court, which is often noted as being one of the “loudest college basketball arenas” in the United States. This prestigious venue has also hosted numerous “March Madness” games, concerts, and high-profile college events.

Allen Fieldhouse

Northeast Kansas college sports fans are in luck, in Lawrence. This fine city is home to Allen Fieldhouse, the indoor arena for the University of Kansas Jayhawks men's and women's basketball teams.

The arena was completed in 1955 and named in honor of Dr. Forrest C. "Phog" Allen, a Kansas Jaykawks men's basketball coach. Throughout the years, Allen Fieldhouse has hosted thirty-seven National Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament games. It remains a very prestigious building in college basketball.

In additional to college basketball games, the fieldhouse has hosted indoor track and field events, volleyball matches, NBA games and key-note speakers like President Bill Clinton. Top-name music concerts hosted at the arena include Elton John, Sonny and Cher, Alice Cooper, The Beach Boys, Tina Turner, and ZZ Top.

While in northeast Kansas, watch the Jayhawks play in the arena and be a part of the school tradition of singing the alma mater song, "Crimson and the Blue."

Intrust Bank Arena

Opened in early 2010, Intrust Bank Arena is located in downtown Wichita, set in southeastern Kansas.

Kansas’ second largest indoor arena, this multipurpose arena features more than 15,000 seats – plus 300 premium seats, 22 suites, and 40 loge boxes. Intrust Bank Arena also offers 16 concession stands, 12 ticket windows, and over 4,000 parking spots.

Intrust Bank Arena is the current home the Central Hockey League’s Wichita Thunder, and hosts everything from rodeos and basketball to major concerts and professional wrestling events.

Memorial Stadium

Originally built by faculty and students in 1920, Memorial Stadium is the home field of the Kansas City Jayhawks football team. After going through many renovations and modernizations, the stadium can now seat over 50,000 fans on game day.

The stadium also hosts the Kansas City Relays – an event seeing college, high school, and even Olympic runners compete annually since 1921. The stadium is a "U" shape, a shape it's held since 1927.
