When you want an afternoon of culture, head to one of the city's museums. The Joslyn Art Museum has a collection of fine arts from around the world. It's the city's history that's on display in the Durham Museum. Housed in the art deco Union Station, the museum's worth seeing for the architecture alone, but take time to check out the trains, recreated storefronts, and historic artifacts.
Kids will enjoy exploring the Omaha Children's Museum, with its Imagination Playground, and the Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium.
Spend your evening out at the theater. The historic Orpheum Theater was a vaudeville house when it was built back in 1927, and the building preserves the ornate décor of the era, including crystal chandeliers. Today it's the setting for Opera Omaha, Broadway shows, and other live performances.
If you'd rather join a crowd cheering for sports, time your visit to the College World Series, taking place at TD Ameritrade Park. The championship's been held in Omaha since 1950. There are more future baseball stars on the Omaha Storm Chasers minor league affiliate of the KC Royals. Basketball lovers can cheer for the Creighton Bluejays when they play at CenturyLink Center.
