Wildlife from Nebraska and the World
Meet some of Nebraska's native prairie wildlife at Crane Trust Nature & Visitor Center in Wood River. The preserve is one of Nebraska's top birding sites, with crane migration tours taking visitors view the great sandhill cranes flying overhead and roosting along the Platte River during their March migration. The Trust has also restored the iconic American bison to the site, with a herd roaming through the grass and along the river. Ten miles of trails cut through the grassland, letting visitors immerse themselves in the prairie.
Animals from all over the world make their home at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium. Stop in the African Grasslands exhibit and contrast the animals there with the animals native to Nebraska's grasslands. Step from the prairie into the largest indoor rainforest in North America and the Desert Dome to meet the animals in other habitats. You'll learn more about the animals at programs including penguin and shark feedings.
