Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota
Visit Mount Rushmore - South Dakota's Most Iconic Landmark
Located near the city of Keystone, Mount Rushmore has been a staple of American history and to destination for family vacations for nearly a century. Sitting nearly 6,000 feet above sea level, the sculpture depicts former United States presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Carefully carved into the granite mountainside, each sculpture is roughly 60-feet tall and is easily visible from the highway.
Constructed in the Badlands region of South Dakota, Mount Rushmore encompasses more than one million acres and includes several other traveler-friendly attractions like the Lincoln Borglum Museum and the Presidential Trail. You will also find a visitor’s center to help enhance your experience. The Borglum Visitor Center features two theaters, a museum, and a bookstore.
For an up-close-and-personal view of the Presidents, take a stroll along the Presidential Trail – featuring just over a half-mile of scenery, looping through the forest, and back to the memorial. While on the trail, if time permits, make a stop at the Lakota, Nakota, and Dakota Heritage Village for more information on the area’s native inhabitants.
