Plan a few outdoor adventures in the Front Range Colorado region and discover why it’s one of the most popular destinations in the state. St. Vrain State Park is located in Firestone, just a short drive from Denver and Fort Collins. The sprawling 600-acre park offers several hiking and biking trails and a fun area for off-roading. Lory State Park

Set in northern Colorado just west of Fort Collins, the 2,500-acre Lory State Park is part of the Roosevelt National Forest – set off the west shore of the Horsetooth Reservoir.

Founded in 1975, Lory State Park features over 26 miles of trail ideal for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.

Hikers need head down the 1.7-mile Arthur's Rock Trail, the 1.2-mile Well Gulch Nature Trail, and the 1.2-mile Overlook Trail – and maybe even quick jog down the quick Waterfall Trail.

Packed your mountain bike? Then gear-up for an adventurous journey down the 3.7-mile Timber Trail, the 2.2-mile East Valley Trail, or the 2.7-mile South Valley Trail Loop.

Feel like hitting the saddle? Horsebike ride down the .9-mile Mill Creek Link Trail, the 1.5-mile Westridge Trail, or the 2.1-mile Howard Trail.

Other Lory State Park activities include rock climbing, picnicking, and hunting. Water recreation can be found in the form of boating, water skiing, and fishing on the Horsetooth Reservoir. St. Vrain State Park

Formerly Barbour Ponds, St. Vrain State Park is located in Firestone, between Denver and Fort Collins, and is perfect for a day trip in the great outdoors. Sitting on 604 acres, the park features plenty of opportunity bird watching, hiking, and fishing at Blue Heron Reservoir.

Hiking trails include Muskrat Run Nature Trail, Bald Eagle Pond Trail, Coot Pond Trail, and Pelican Pond Trail, each having their own designations as to whether hiking, biking, and off-highway vehicles are permitted access. Don't miss the Blue Heron rookery as well – it's the largest in the state.
