Colorado Winter Recreation

Colorado is a vast landscape of sweeping mountain ranges, open plains, and stunning lakes – all of which make it a premier destination for winter recreation.

Plan your next visit to the Centennial State and head north, where cities like Loveland and Craig make for ideal getaways. You can explore the Flatiron Reservoir for ice fishing, or check out the Black Mountain-Freeman Wilderness Ranch in Craig for excellent snowmobiling chances.

Estes Park yields quick trips into nearby Rocky Mountain National Park, and the Winter Park Resortcan provide a full day of skiing, tubing, and more.

When your next winter visit to Colorado has you in Denver, explore the area and find a new favorite skiing destination. You'll find a number of exceptional skiing areas around Denver, all within a short drive.

Check out the Breckenridge Ski Resort near Dillon, or the Copper Mountain Ski Area, also close to Dillon. The Arapahoe Basin Ski Area is no doubt another excellent choice for skiing, while those seeking more ice fishing in the Denver area can visit the Aurora Reservoir.

Snowmobiling in the Denver area should see you exploring the Spring Creek Trail System in Frisco, a scenic drive from Glenwood Springs. The nearby Dillon Reservoir is known to have groomed trails offering a unique look at the surrounding areas. In all, there's nearly 2,700 miles of snowmobiling trails in Colorado.

While many Colorado visitors enjoy heading south to see the Four Corners, this region is also home to some excellent winter recreation. Lake Pueblo, once frozen over, yields impressive hauls of trout and walleye for ice anglers. Skiing in southern Colorado means one thing: Telluride. Visit this massive and impressive park from Monte Vista.
